6/16/00
Awards
for NASA Launch Services (NLS) contracts, designed to provide
a broad range of launch services for NASA planetary, earth-observing
and scientific payloads, were announced today. NASA selected
both Boeing Delta Launch Services, Inc. and Lockheed Martin
Commercial Launch Services, Inc. for Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite
Quantity contracts with a minimum of one launch service to
each contractor over a 10-year period.
Under
the NLS contracts NASA can order up to 70 launch services,
with a total estimated value to $5 billion. Included in the
70 launch services, Boeing Delta Launch Services, Inc. was
awarded three firm missions with a value of more than $168
million and five option missions with a potential value of
over $248 million, for an overall value of about $417 million.
"Boeing
Delta Launch Services, Inc. and Lockheed Martin Commercial
Launch Services, Inc. were selected based on their ability
to meet NASA's highly critical future mission requirements
and their proven track records for providing a quality product
over the years to NASA," said Scott Kerr, Chairman, NLS Source
Evaluation Board. "We look forward to continuing our growing
relationship with these companies and are encouraged by what
they have in store for the future of expendable vehicles."
